In many horror games, enemies simply kill you. Nothing new. But in my game, most enemies don’t kill you directly. Instead, they try to make you lose your mind.
I strongly believe that adding too much UI breaks immersion in horror games, so I’m keeping it minimal. Right now, the only UI in game shows your current spells (but even that may change). As your sanity drops, you’ll start to hear strange whispers. Your flashlight will flicker. Everything around you will get darker, even if you’re near light. Shadowy figures will appear — harmless, but terrifying. You’ll know something is happening… but will you be able to stop it, or will you lose control?
Sanity increases in light and drops in darkness. Killing enemies also helps you recover it. When your sanity is low, enemies become stronger and more aggressive. It’s a pretty straightforward system for now, but I also plan to add passive abilities, tools, and spells that affect sanity in different ways.
By the way — the generator room I mentioned in one of my X posts is now finished. It has a central generator that lights up the whole space, and a few storage racks with useful resources.
Right now, I’m working on the main lighthouse room, and I’ll keep adding more areas, puzzles, and interesting features. Stay tuned!
